Jeff brings up the often-missed point: just because the requirement for entry
has been lowered, it does not necessarily follow that none of those who enter
would be able to meet the tighter standards. Nor does it mean that entering
at a lower level cannot attain a level the same as (or higher than) that
attained by those entering at a higher level.
Ham radio is a different thing than it was when I started, and 25 years
from now, it will be different than the new entries from 2008 encountered.
What makes it worthwhile (or not) is the long term result, not the starting point.
