Good Morning Jim,
Please see my response to your questions below:
1. As I have indicated in my bio I feel the QCWA should become more active
in the direction of Amateur Radio. One of the methods is filing opinions
to the FCC and the ARRL regarding regualtory issues. The main question
becomes, what kind of response can we generate that will be effective and
will be taken seriously by these other groups, and represent the general
membership of the QCWA. I do favor using the quarterly journal to pole our
members, but being only a quarterly journal timing becomes an issue when
responding to FCC issues. If our external relations committee is on top of
whats going on, then I feel we would have time to address important issues
that we need to be involved with on a national and international
basis. First the BoD needs to see the need, and then devise a plan of
action to address this question.
2. Yes, the same as above. I would hope that the QCWA would take the lead
in areas that we can impact.
3. I would like to see the QCWA get involved in more educational areas
regarding Amateur Radio. We have a great base of knowledgeable hams with
years of training to impact new amateurs and recruiting new Hams to the
hobby. Our Chapters are the key to any operation and direction that the
QCWA opts to go. We need a strong Chapter Relations committee that is
active and listening to Chapters, and then plan and implement new programs
that can and will impact Amateur Radio in the US and Canada. I believe
that the QCWA can become a more proactive organization in the world of
Amateur Radio, not against the ARRL, but with our own direction and
programs. We're not going to be as big as the ARRL, but we can be as
active and heard if we become a more directed organization.
Thanks for your questions. I hope this gives you an idea where I'm coming
from and how I see the future of the QCWA.
Regards
Matt Tinker
