Hi Jim,
Tnx for your questions.
>What are your feelings about becoming more active in filings before the FCC
>on important issues?
I'd love to be more involved but, the only way to find out what our members
want done on a particular issue is to ask them. They get very upset when we
don't. The three most probable ways are using the Journal, a separate
mailed survey, the reflector or the website. A survey in the Journal would
take six months to finish. A separate questionnaire could yield results in
three month but would cost several thousand dollars. The reflector only has
297 members subscribed. The website doesn't have the bells and whistles
needed to conduct an on-line survey. None of these methods would be
adequate for us to file a timely response with the FCC that's reflects how
our members feel. About all QCWA can do is encourage our members to submit
their own comments to the FCC.
>Should the QCWA initiate and file petitions to the FCC regarding other
>issues?
Yes we should. There isn't the short time frame here as there is in
responding to a pending action.
>Are there other directions the QCWA should pursue?
Absolutely, we need better communications between the Board and our members
and chapters. We established a Hotline reflector at the convention in
Ottawa for the exclusive use of the Presidents and Secretaries of our local
chapters just for this purpose. It's had surprisingly little use. The hope
was, they could exchange ideas with each other about what worked at a
meeting and what didn't. Or an officer could ask if anyone has tried XYZ,
how well was it received, what could be done to make it better. The Chapter
Reports provide some of this information but they are several months old
when printed in the Journal.
Jim, If you have further questions, please ask.
73,
Bob Roske, N0UF
Candidate for QCWA President
