Actually, the bad guys HAVE figured out how to exploit security 
vulnerabilities with graphics files.  One of the latest round of 
Microsoft fixes was to take care of that problem.

If you're running any version of Windows, go out to 
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsupdate and install any critical Windows 
fixes that it says you need.  If you're running Windows2000 or 
WindowsXP, turn on Automatic Updates so that you get new critical 
Windows fixes automatically as they come out.

If you're using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.), go out to 
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates to get fixes for those.  (You 
may need the original install media.)
