You may remember the article about Shirley in the Winter-2003 Journal, The Ultimate Elmer.

Shirley, my friend and Elmer, is seriously ill in the hospital.  He's depressed and is refusing treatment, saying he's ready to die.  He's 84 years old.  This is so unlike the man who loved life so much.  I think he is a QCWA member; I know he was because I bought him a membership several years ago.
