[Qcwa] KEEP THE CODE - ANOTHER THOUGHT

Thanks, Dick. However, I think there continues to be too much
unrelenting concentration on "threats to CW" - rather than giving fresh
consideration to how we and others might view and support it going
forward. As much as I detested the work to get to 20wpm, I've always
appreciated the significance of continuing such operations - and want it
"protected" - in the sense that I want the resources and the skills
strongly supported - through whatever means is most practical - and
enduring. CW's image will only suffer more if we continue to declare
it essential for the multi-mode licensing scheme predominant today - and
risk losing support for some attractive alternative treatment. 73,
Bob.

That's a very interesting suggestion, Bob. Though the cavalry has long
been
superceded as a way of projecting military force, the challenges and
pleasures of raising, riding, racing, and showing off good horses lives
on
and thrives. A similar observation can be made about the
difficult-to-master art of fencing. Good CW operators can take
justifiable
pride in their skills; rag-chewing and contesting are two good ways of
enjoying them.
But is also clear that licensing agencies around the world are having a
hard
time justifying the effort and expense of continuing to use CW as a
licensing prerequisite.
What you suggest could be the start of an interesting and possibly
productive initiative.
