Joe, the world really is small. I spent about a year in Crowder. Many
years after the war I met a lot of hams who were Cadre in Monmouth. If I
had known the top Colonel before the war I might have gotten a job there.
His call was W2AIM, Nat. Well, that's water under the bridge. If I had
qualified as a fixed station op I had a chance to get to be a master
sarge. The company I was in had a great Table of Organization. Can't
complain as I came back in one piece. The bulge started on my birthday on
December 16th. My partner and I were the last Army Messengers to leave on
that day. We ran between 1st Army Headquarters and 8th Corp which was in
Bastogne. It was a daily trip.
