[PVRCNC] Portable Contest Operation Questions

Henry,
The 175 mile circle applies to ARRL contests only. The CQ contest circle is
250 miles. There are many contests with no circles, i.e. NAQP. Check the 5M
Rules (http://www.pvrc.org/5M/5milrules.pdf) to see the circle requirements
for each contest.
As far as ID, there's no legal requirement to append portable or anything
else. Since you're still in NC, the only people who would likely be
interested in the fact that you are not at your home QTH would be county
hunters (you'll be in a rarer county than common Wake).
N3QE can weigh in on club affiliation identification, but I know that for
ARRL contests, he has to submit a list of eligible stations for each
contest, i.e. who are in circle, so if you identify as PVRC but not on the
list, your score won't be counted by the contest sponsor. I'm not sure
about the CQ and other contests.
The question of club is mostly personal. If you want to separate the QSL
requests or for awards, a club call might make sense.
I look forward to hearing you on more often.
