I have a Racal 6790/GM which I love, and Dan AC6AO (a Racal guru) installed
for me the additional front end board made specifically for VLF work.
Local noise levels here in San Diego have increased, but with the board I
can receive many listed VLF stations even from as far away as Antarctica
with my little PA0RDT active antenna.
I also suggest people read all The Dallas Files <
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/thedallasfiles2/info> where noted SWLer
Dallas Lankford has many ideas, gear modifications and filters related to
LF work.
