Hi!
These were used by NSA and other intelligence organizations. they were a
competitor of Watkins Johnson. I got to clean out the factory on Edsall Road
after the stockroom had been sold by a local junkman to Toronto Surplus. I
have had about a dozen of these, still have one in the warehouse. LCD
displays were always a problem. Nice radios when they are running. I currently
have the newer version SR2155 with the FE to 1 GHz which has LEDs displays.
They got away from the LCD.
I have the manual somewhere but you are right, it is hard to find and about
3 inches thick, so would cost a bundle to duplicate. The company went by
several names ACL, AstroCommunications Labs, Norlin, Aiken, they were once
owned by General Mills. I used to be good friends with a fellow, Ed Turos,
who was the 6th guy hired at ACL. He shared a lot of history with me. They
also made the GLR-9 receiver, first modular solid state radio (also known
as the SR-209) that covered .5 to 7000 MHz in swapable tuners.
Got a bunch of the SR-209 stuff as well. And about 1000 pieces of WJ gear
stacked up here.... Only time is in short supply.
Let me know how your search progresses.
