Hi Dave.
Did you find any info on the stc receiver?
I had one several years ago and had to replace the preselctor motor + a 
couple of relays on that board.....still looking through my collection of 
manuals (I did have one) can't remember if it went with the radio when I let 
it go.
PS I also did a mod on it to give lsb....seem to remember it was just a case 
of  changing the stop position on the mode switch and adding the extra 
connections.... but need the manual to remember exactly what I did 
(catch22).
Will keep looking.
As for tants (hate em) Had a spectacular failure on a pye whitehall txrx 
....moved it of the bench on to lap (whilst powered up) to re-arrange power 
lead & coax when the workshop floor lit up briefly ....it was then I felt a 
searing pain in my leg as the incendiary device (47uf 16v) unsoldered itself 
and continued to burrow thru my jeans into my leg....needless to say the 
radio accelerated towards the ceiling and I did a roger bannister to the 
nearest water supply....
I still have the scar 25 years later (mental as well as physical). Most of 
the time they are very inoccuous but sometimes just sometimes they can be 
spectacular when they fail.
