Thanks for the contribution. The 1773 and 1774 mounted in the strong Creeth
cases were almost certainly for military applications as I don't know of
civilians using those heavy (and costly) cases.
You can see the same case used for the Racal RA329B (the green pained
military version of the RA217D plus FSK/FM adaptor) and with much other
equipment used in the field such as signal generators etc. The box-like
screw-on lids (fairly water-resistant I think) are perfect receptacles for
storing cables, probes and books in safety.
There was a maritime version of the RA1772 using the requisite narrower
2.35kHz SSB filters in lieu of the normal 2.75kHz filter. I personally
don't like the sound of 2.35kHz bandwidths, but they play their part when
the amateur bands are very crowded.
I hope the group's learned membership will be able to tell us more on the
American and Canadian variants. There seems to be very little info on these
sets over in this part of the world.
