I don't remember the 1794 having an IEE-488 interface but it is a while now  
since I sold mine so perhaps it does.

The 1796 does have a rotary tuner and the sets are otherwise very similar,  
to the extent that I did consider at one time adding the rotary  encoder 
circuit to the 1794 and trying it with 1796 firmware.
I never did though, so can't comment any further on that idea:-)
