While talking to Dan, ac6a0 / g3ncr, the topic of drifting BFOs on RA1772s came up. I worked at Racal in the late 70s and early 80s on the digital AFC board for the 1772. There should not be much call for AFC these days, and the AFC board has a 7 MHz VCXO which is frequency locked to the incoming carrier. It should not be too difficult to connect the BFO control to the VCXO, divide the 7 MHz by 5 and use this as a stable 1.4 MHz BFO. We used a similar system when we linked the LO output of the 1772 to a TRA931 (Syncal) HF manpack radio or MA1720 drive unit for transceive operation. Pulling the 7 MHz VCXO gave us some IRT.

Anyone else out there using the RA3701/3702/3712?
