The Rhode book is outstanding, if you want a thorough understanding of the
interdynamics of receiver design choices. Although you don't need an
engineering degree to understand it, and he presents many practical
examples, it's not a book for someone with a limited understanding of
electronics.
Rhode also wrote one of the best books on synthesizers ever. That one is a
bit more theoretical, but again, he presents many practical examples.
Neither of these books really reviews or compares particular receivers,
their features, etc. They are geared toward the engineer.
I highly recommend both.
