You guys are way over my head with Pico, Teco and vim editors etc. even
though I have been a computer user since the 80's. For us dummies, I simply
go to MS Word, find the symbol I want, using Insert, Symbol. I select the
appropriate table of symbols, of which there seems to be countless, and
place it into a new document. I then simply cut it from there and place it
into the email, and hey presto! And I don't have to remember HEX to do this.

Depends on the editor he's using. I'll risk starting another flareup
of The Editor War, a perennial religious war, by saying that I use the
vim editor, and I enter the © symbol by typing Control-K 169 in input
mode. For more information, vim users can enter ":help :dig".

In a Microsoft system, one usually can hold down the ALT key and type
the Hex equivalent of the character, oruse the keymap program to
select it and paste it into the editor window.

Pico, Teco, and Emacs users will have their own recipes for doing this
magic, and I have no idea at all whether it is even possible using the
joe editor. Teco and Emacs control strings all look like line noise to
me, anyway.
