Not just e-mail, but phone phishing. My dad fell victim to a phone scammer claiming that his computer was not operating up to its top performance, and offered to fix it. My dad let him in to the PC, where he then installed a remote monitoring tool, and my dad unwittingly gave the phisher his bank account info to facilitate easier payment to the scammer's PayPal acct. The scammer was then able to monitor my dad's bank account, watching for social security and retirement deposits, and would pull them out as soon as they came in. My dad didn't notice because the account balance wouldn’t change much as money went in and then came right out. Dad finally figured out this was happening, but probably was so embarrassed he didn't tell anyone, until my sister somehow discovered it, by my dad's change in his daily demeanor and she happened to hear him on a phone call with this scammer who was trying to get more money. We got it straightened out, but he lost about a thousand dollars. Older folks really do fall victim easier.
