Thanks to Bob and Ron, for the info about Murray Radio.
That's exactly the type of info I was looking for -- when I peddle the stuff
at the swapfest, it will be nice to give a bit of 'local history' about the
hardware. It's tempting to keep them, but I have too much junque already...
BTW, the xmtr really has a 6L6 xtal oscillator, and an 807 final - I said it
wrong yesterday.
The fellow that used to own this stuff was Conrad Schader, W0DYB. Did any of
you folks happen to know him? He lived in Golden or west Denver, and before
that lived in Trinidad. I have a QSL card that he mailed to himself on Feb.
24, 1948, which mentions "807 in final, 50 watts inp., modulating with pr.
6L6s, S-38 rcvr". I believe this is referring to the Murray xmtr (and his
Halli S-38, which I have also). He was apparently in the commercial
broadcast business, possibly a technician. From his QSL card collection and
his radio gear, he worked only VHF phone (10, 6, and 2). He was active in
the late 40's, then was "gone" for the 50's, and became active again in the
60's. He seems to have quit again in the 70's, and passed away last year.
I have Mr. Schader's QSL card collection, and his station log books, going
back to the late '40's. Does anyone save/collect that sort of thing? I'd be
happy to donate them to a good home... They are mostly U.S., with a few from
Canada.
