Charles I have done several repairs on the PCR -1000 and found that the
front end will blow the several parts yes including a diode and a couple of
resistors and capacitors.
These are surface mounts parts unless you have had experience in repairing
and removing the component I would not try it the damage will be
instantaneous and no reversable.
This type of work does take some special skills.
If you are fimiliar with this type of trouble shooting go for it.
Icom is out of the question you can buy another one on that E place cheaper
if you want to take that chance.
Most repairs on the front end and power supply circuits.
I have never had the Eprom go brain dead but I am sure it is possible and if
that happens you are finished unless you want to pay a big price in fixing
it.
Email me off the reflector if you have more questions.
