[PCR-1000] repair?

The EAPROM doesnt go totally dead; it re-writes its code reducing 
sensitivity below 100 Mhz.  At least thats what happened to mine.  ICOM 
refused to admit it was a problem even though thousands of people worldwide 
experienced the same thing, and complained bitterly to ICOM with no 
acceptable response.

I have never had problems with the power circuits, as I am running on a 
highly regulated lab powersupply, not that blister pack they supply.

I agree with you about SMT; if you dont have experience with them, dont 
touch them, as you will probably fry the traces if you overheat them.

Having had bad experiences with ICOM rcvrs, xcvrs over the years, I refuse 
to buy any of their products.  I still run a venerable 1970's era Yaesu 
Ft-757GX xcvr, as a backup rig, and its still within factory specs.

Apparently ICOM doesnt consider reliability a major issue, as they only seem 
to want to be "first kid on the block" with a new toy. :-(
