Still, this problem is a stupid mistake by icom. Serial hardware, designed
for any OS, that can be so easely fu**ed up by data sent to the serial
port... that is stupid. I am not sure what exact bytes sent would make the
eeprom in writable-mode, but i guess someone here know that (as the
backup softwares have this "code"). Okay, the unit may get strange data
from the OS when booting, looking for new h/w. But this problem is still
stupid. Why the hell would anyone make the units "brain" so easy to get to
from the same source that it operates? That is like asking for trouble.
And by the way... as icom have this really strict policy for dealing with
the
problem, i suppose they know that this problem can occur (or they would
be more open for support and service - go figure).
