Just a quick update on my scan problem. In keeping with the KISS principle 
(Keep It Simple, Stupid) the first thing I did was to re-install that Famous 
Icom Software (V1.31) that came with my radio. Even though I have a radio 
with a low serial number (#03423) it shipped with V1.31 software. Problem 
solved! The radio has been running for over an hour now and has not exhibited 
the problem. The only thing I can think of is that the software somehow got 
corrupted and the re-install fixed the problem. One thing I did notice while 
running the scan just before the re-install was that I was getting a 
"Connection ..." indicator both in the Upper Left of the screen where it says 
PCR-1000 and on the PCR-1000 Button on the Tool Bar at the bottom of the 
screen just as the radio would stop scanning. Hope this will help someone 
else if this problem develops for them.  Just might try to download the "New 
Software V-2.0" and see how that works. Again, Thanks to all who took the 
time to email me with help and the software I was looking for.
