Well, you can always do what a bunch of Linux and *BSD users do:
run the Gatesware under the *nix-like OS, using wine or vmware.
My friends who do so tell me that it works just fine. 

Every Linux distribution has its own adherents, and they get into
what can only be called religious wars over which is "best", 
with no reference to _what_ it's "best" for. They get into very
similar wars over which _editor_ is "best", too. 

That holds true for the FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD users, too: I have
seen some flaming over which is "best", though not as much as I've 
seen over Linux distributions. 

Try one. If it suits you, keep it and use it. If it doesn't, then 
try another; lather, rinse, repeat. 

"Best" is a Holy Grail that doesn't exist. "Best for $TASK" is 
something that can be objectively evaluated.
