[PCR-1000] EPROM Corruption

I don't know, but I seem to recall that the data transfer rate might have
something to do with some of the problems in the corruption phenomenon.  It
seems that the radio/prom can be easily confused by too much information
coming too fast, or something like that -- maybe some programs are more
liable to cause the problem than others, Icom software included.  Again, I'm
not the techie, so I can only surmise.  I was wondering what ever happened
re: the heat problem that seemed to occupy so much bandwidth a couple/three
years or so ago -- there was much speculation about whether or not large
coax connections drained away heat or if, indeed, the heat that some units
seemed to develop was really a problem or just a natural variation within
the circuits from radio to radio.  If there ever was a resolution of the
issue, then I missed it.  But I was wondering about it just within the last
couple of weeks.  I hate to think of generating a similar controversy, but
if there was anything definitive then I should like to know of it.  Thanks.

BUT...

its crazy to think of costs for repair when they are fixing a fault that
their hardware has developed due to their software.
I have heard of built in life spans but this is stupid!
Perhaps someone could explain more about why this happens?
Is it perhaps over heating in the unit?
