[PCR-1000] DSP Option

I have two PCR-1000 radios, and both have the UT-106 option.  It is DSP
through hardware as opposed to software.  It is basically two tools that
one can clean up noise, and act as a band pass filter.  And they work
very well.  I use them always when in HF SSB, it makes all the
difference, being able to process the sound to extremes.  I rarely use
it with AM, even more rare to use it with all flavors of FM.  It is nice
to know that it is there if you need it; in addition to adding value to
your radio.  Like most other tools, you definitely refine your tuning
methods as you learn the DSP adjustments individually as well as working
together (BPF and ANR).  I strongly recommend the purchase, and why turn
it down as it is relatively inexpensive, and you get a more flexible
radio.

I have been enjoying my PCR-1000 for about a year now, and I confess I
don't know what the DSP Option is exactly! I know it's "Digital Signal
Processing," but what will it do for me that the PCR won't do already?
And how do you hook it up? The ICOM Manual is, of course, silent on
this. 

I would appreciate any advice from experienced users.  Thanks.
