1	My understanding from a layman's point of view is that the settings in the
EPROM are made during set-up of the radio and are unique to each receiver.
So, if they are corrupted and you have a backup then they can be restored
easily. If you have no backup  then the radio has to be set-up again so that
the settings can be restored in the EPROM. Specialised gear is required as
is a program which can be found on the web, however the equipment needed is
expensive and beyond reach of most amateurs. And ICOM charge a lot to set
up!

2	Slim is the answer here. Haven't seen anybody on this list complain that
TalkPCR corrupted their EPROM. And if you have a backup you have insurance
anyway...

I have two questions for the group.

1. I've seen a dos program that will back up the EPROM on the PCR. Although
I've also read that the only way to repair the problems with the EPROM is to
send it to ICOM....if this is the case, what is the point of backing up the
EPROM.

2. I'd like to use the TAlkPCR program (I think that's the name of it). What
are the chances of this screwing up the PCR-1000?
