[PCR-1000] PCR1000 Wxsat Reception

Marv,
Wxtrack is very sensitive to correct setting of the recording volume. My
PCR1000 discriminator o/p does not have a high enough level to use the line
i/p on my sound card, so I have to use the mic i/p. (use the line i/p for
general listening) In wxsat, goto Recording -> Test and you can set the
salteelite signal levels to fall within the marked levels. With just
background noise, the level is about 10%. When you have a signal, check
Recording->AM Demodulation, adjusting the levels to fall bewteen the lines.
NOAA transmits two side by side images, one visual, the other Infra Red. At
this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the visual image will
generally be black and the IR image, due to much lower contrast, appears
almost white. I guess I'd see what you're getting if I could be bothered
checking, I will wait until April or May before looking for decent images.
Also, wxsat can reocrd wav files. You then adjust wxsat paramteres and
reprocess the file, altering the gain for both visual and Ir channels etc.
Just remember that if it was easy, there'd be no challenge!!!
A decent aerial is essential. On a whip or vertical you will get images,
but with significant noise and signal drop outs. If wxsat is automatically
recording, these dropouts can force a new image to be processed.
Regards
Roger

Hello Roger,
Those instructions were <very> good!
Unfortunately, I must still be doing something incorrectly. I pick up the
sats just fine. I can get WXSAT to react, but all I get (regardless of where
I place the volume control) is either a white background with black dots or
a black background w/ white dots. (looks like a TV channel after hours) I
notice that the setup defaults to "AM+PLL+Coh.Det." I assume this is correct
for NOAA and NOAA VIS (what's the diff. between them????) I am using PACKET,
NBFM, 50K, TalkPcr....
Any suggestions?
Marv
