Years ago I learned that an antenna on 80 meters will be an NVIS below 130 feet above ground. Same situation with 40 meters where a dipole or yagi should be up at least 70 feet.This was after I tried running an 80 meter dipole, ten feet off the ground. It does not work. Although the tree level was much higher.Does an NVIS antenna need to be in an open field ? Good question. On 80 meters, any dipole up 25-40 feet is a killer antenna for our contest.Throw some RF into the sky, you never know where it will landHerb K2LNS
