Hi Mark and others,

Thanks for the warm welcome. The NVIS was a modified military design. My ham experimenter Walt (KC3DGC) and I built these antennas. We tried 2 heights of 12 feet and 15 feet off of the ground. 40 meter was incredible on the NVIS. In test mode, at either 12 or 15 feet we were hitting as far North to Maine, South to South Carolina and West to Ohio. No wires under it. It was a great performer for the QSO party as well. I got 30 distinct counties easily. Erie came in a 59 as well as Montgomery (my QTH)

80 meters was a different story. We were unable to get it to work at all. We tried different configurations (the two heights) , and with or without a wire underneath it. No dice. we discussed the antenna’s performance at our monthly club breakfast, after the QSO party. Another ham, Alex (KA2VLP) has the same antenna and he put coils on it. It worked perfectly for him. He suggested that we put coils on it That is our next project.

All in all it was a great time. I truly enjoyed the party and the antenna project. I am looking forward to 2016!

Congratulations and welcome!

Tell me more about the NVIS antennas. How high (low)? Ground wire(s) under? How well did they work?

This was my first pa qso party and I had a blast only working 40m . My club Pottstown arc (PAARC) had several members participate. We built special nvis antennas and are planning for next year. Thanks to all.
