I'm usually wrong about this stuff, but I always thought that in this case 
the  "CQ P"  was  short for  "California QSO Party".  I heard a bunch of 
them "CQ CQ  CQ CQP"

If you are working the PA QSO Party, I guess it makes sense but probably 
confuses the heck out of those not in the party.

KF3DJ (Ron) and I will have W3CG on the air from Erie County, 160 – 20, CW 
and SSB.

One question: last weekend, I was warming up on the Californians and couldn’t 
help but notice how many of the CW stations were calling “CQ P de W6xxx”. 
Now, this “CQ P” makes a lot of sense to me. It saves a bunch of letters. 
Does it make sense to everyone, or is it confusing?”
