2 years ago, running portable in Forest County using a car battery to run a
TS-440S & a laptop, I got about 4 hours of operation before it got low
enough to warrant a swap.

When asked "If you had been in President Clinton's place, would you have
resigned?",
Republican Member of the House of Representatives Dick Armey replied:

"If I were in the President's place, I would not have gotten a chance to
resign. I would be laying in a pool of my own blood, hearing Mrs. Armey
standing over me saying, "How do I reload this damn thing?"

How long can a 100w station solid state xcvr (TS-50S+AT) safely operate (
with the engine off) without draining the car battery?

And how long does it take to fully recharge a low battery with the engine
running but the car parked in stationary mode (idle).

Im sure somebody has drained his car battery in contest mode, so before I
do
it, a couple of estimates might be worthwhile.
