Hi Connie,
Well, maybe... Maybe not... They have stated repeatedly that they are
using WSJT-X F/H software. You can't transmit 2nd sequence as a Fox with
WSJT-X. I really believe we have multiple pirates out there just
screwing with folks. It's the pirate transmitting on the 2nd sequence.
Then he gets a ton of people calling him on the first sequence. Then it
could be another pirate or the same one calling CQ on the first sequence
a couple times, just screwing with the multitudes... As I stated before,
the other day on 21.105 the multitudes were calling on both sequences. I
had a couple decodes of 3Y0J giving someone RR73. This 3Y0J was on the
second sequence (So not F/H). A little later I copied a CQ from 3Y0J
with a Grid of EL97 (Florida) on 21.105 first sequence(A definite pirate
- grid EL97). Then the masses began calling him again on 2nd sequence...
I bet, if and when they ever get a log uploaded, there will be many many
disappointed DXers who thought they had a QSO, but are not in the log
because they worked a pirate...
The real 3Y0J stations are so weak with their 100 watts and a wire and
QTH behind mountains on the SE side of the island we can't hear them in
NA. They are working EU and JA and a very few W's... The rest of the W's
are working pirates...
I agree with you that a lot of this is self-inflicted by the
DXpedition organizers. They raised a ton of money, publicized the event
extensively, and set expectations very high... i.e.... 12 stations on
the air, 200K QSOs, all band activity, etc., etc. They set expectations
very high and they have not delivered. So, folks are frustrated, whether
it's justified or not... It's no excuse for the poor behavior we are
witnessing on the bands, but it is a contributor... Compare this
DXpedition with the Congo DXpedition of just a few weeks ago... That was
a tremendously successful effort, 165K QSOs, very professionally done.
You didn't hear the crap on their pileup frequencies like what is on
3Y0J... So, the DXpedition operator/organizer has some responsibility
for a smooth running show.... My 2 cents worth...
73,
Jeff - K5WE

Was not a problem for me as I us JTDX software, but for WSJT-X users running as a Hound it put them on the wrong sequence automatically as soon as the clicked on the 3Y0J call on the screen.
