'Automatic mode' in FT8? That's a new one.

It is obvious that this guy has an axe to grind. A lot of misinformation and omissions in his post.

I'll not try to answer his comments because here is where we are going with this.

Several US stations are running in automatic mode. They are calling CQ on multiple bands at the same time 24 hours a day. I won't mention any calls but you can find them by watching PSK Reporter. I guess they are just maximizing their QSO totals. Think about this. Set up a station with several rigs running FT8 in automatic mode. Set the antenna's where you think the props will be. Go to work and let them run. When you come home from work, check to see if you have worked anything worthwhile.

For the dxpedition using automatic operation, I guess we should require them to remain in the country while their equipment is operating and maybe require them to check it once a day to make sure they are not causing unwanted interference.

So this begs the question, do we need operators at all. Perhaps all we need are engineers to set up the ideal station and then check it periodically to make sure it is running right. That could be done remotely. Let's set up these stations on the rarest of entities and let them run so that everyone is on the Honor Roll.

This is obviously a difficult issue and we are not going to solve it here but it is more complicated than saying a monkey can press a key on the keyboard.
