It's Monday June 16, 2008 and i'm reflecting on the experiences
at HamCom. Basically it's on a par with the Dayton experiences.
The Lone Star DX Association guys kept a Handle on the card
checking chores. I offered to lend a hand 4 times and they had
it under control. Can't believe our turncoat DivMgr. Caught him
wearing a LSDXA shirt. Had an eyeball with SgtOkie. Kept Judy
company while Coy updated us on the League happenings. I'll bug
'em for a foto or two of the impressive ARRL panel at the ARRL
forum. Maybe Gene will find room for it. I was impressed.
Interesting to note Coy and the panel took questions on any and
all unasked questions heartofore. Gotta admire our DivMgr's
honesty with our issues. Methinks we got the attention
from the FCC on the BPL Fiasco. That was expensive. Missed K5KC
& W5LC. See ya guys next year. Next year i'll take notes on who
else of your ol' pals you will likely encounter. yo K5XA. Anyone
remember Derrick Electronics in Broken Arrow late 70's or
thereabouts? Yep, K5LAD Jim Pickett & Gloria. Interesting to
note ya hafta attend the gatherings to keep in touch. Can't beat
HamCom for that aspect.
Was hoping Alan would make it. DX Banquet was worth the $36 if
nothing else but the help yourself to whatever or as much as you
can eat. Buffet style. 200+ attendees. Sat with Dave NE5S and
other dignitaries. Eric Scace K3NA has a cababilty to tell it
like what's to do on a DXpedition. (a record setter) Eric is a
great and accomplished speaker. Kinda like our own Tim Duffy.
Forgive me. Go figure on 28 hour schedules, unending chores on
setup and checking on antenna aiming, smelling the lamb chops on
the barby and not making it in time for the feast. (heartbreaker)
K5YAA was recognized as a league manager. (W5QSL buro, etc.) wish
I had half his energy. Maybe Carol and Mark do all the work?
We lost the most influential YL DXer to date. Nellie XE1CI succombed
to pancreatic cancer after a decade fighting it. Have a jpeg of us
from a Dayton gettogether. She & Jody VP5JM were inseperable. So I
hugged both of 'em. (Known VP5JM for a decade+ and she is the
licensing authority for VP5) Anyone recall W2MIG's gathering on
14.165 mornings? NOT a DX net. Just a few DXers yakkin'. RIP Ed.
