I am hosting a Winter Field Day event at my neighborhood community building (the same place as the class and where we did FD last summer)

The address is:

8900 Abbeydale

Houston 77031

This will be an informal affair with an emphasis on comradery and mentoring.

My goal is to give class members a chance to see radio equipment up close and get on the air.

If they pass the test, I will act as control operator even if their license is not yet in the ULC data base.

See my plans below…

My plan is to have 3 rigs running at a time.

2 HF

voice or digital - PSK31 and SSTV (FT8 is not permitted by the rules)

(20m and 40m dipole antennas are ready)

1 VHF/UHF (repeaters will NOT count toward points, but will be a good demonstration)

Based on the extract of the rules below:

Set up indoors or outdoors will depend on the weather and ground conditions

Arrive at site 10 a.m. to unload gear

Start set up by 11 a.m.

Be on the air at 1 p.m. CST

Operate until 9 or 10 p.m.

“Winter Field Day runs for 24 hours during the last full weekend in January each year

from 1900 UTC (2pm EST) Saturday to 1900 UTC (2pm EST) Sunday. For 2020 the dates are

January 25th and 26th. Station set-up may commence no earlier than 1900 UTC (2pm EST) on

the Friday before. Station setup may consume no more than 12 hours total. How & when you

schedule/spend those 12 hours is up to you.”

I will need:

            Small generator

2 general or higher class operators to assist

1 HF rig

I have:

            Extension cords

            Ground bus

            1 HF rig for portable

            1 vhf/uhf rig for portable

            Digital interface

            Laptop for digital work

We can use tables form the community building if we set up outdoors

Everyone bring a comfortable lawn chair
