There will be appeals, I'm sure (too many $$ and
politically-connected people involved), but it looks as if
our handheld GPSs will work for a while longer !
The following is from "The Broadcasters' Desktop Resource"
web site....
2/15/12 - LightSquared had its conditional approval to
operate terrestrial transmitters on frequencies near GPS use
pulled by the FCC on Tuesday as a letter from the NTIA
(National Telecommunications and Information Administration)
regarding their study had determined there was interference
with GPS receivers, and there was no practical way to
mitigate the potential interference within the next few
years. The wavier for operation, granted by the FCC to
LightSquared, was "suspended indefinitely,"
