Hello NLRS, MHTF Members and Friends,

I don't think most of you knew Erich Schulz at all. He
got into Ham Radio after I did back in 1989-90 or so. He did talk-in's
for Ham Fest Minnesota when he was living in St. Paul. He worked for
Metro Legal and delivered Pizza at times for Villa Roma Pizza which
was only a few blocks from him. He also l helped me out with RC-Planes
(though I never saw him fly any, he help me build a plane in his back
workshop of his home. I think he also was a carpenter too, but that
was before I knew him better.

He was one of my friends who was really into computers.
He was the first person I knew at the time, to be on the Internet.
(This was before I knew anything about the net. It was just dial-up
BBS's at that time for me.) He like to help others with what ever he
could.

I first met Erich at the St. Paul FM Club's Field Day
event. Bill NØTWP. (Old call KBØEBE) had taken me out to the "Ski
Jump" F.D. site. We all had a lot of fun that year. NØLGF Brian,
Dennis NØLEY (Old Call KBØFFG), and Bill NØTWP climbed to the top of
that ski jump and Brian had a 4 element beam he was playing with and
not sure to what radio was used... I think an HT. I know they
contacted Pipestone MN. That was really neat for all of us who were
there that night.

As to Erich's health.... I knew he had a quad. by pass and
was in a coma for 3-4 months. Then I was able to talk to him by phone
at the hospital. He told me there was an infection in his leg and told
me the doctors was going to remove it below the knee. (If I remember
right.)

I did talk to him once when he got home from the hospital. I
was going to wait awhile for him to recover and get some rest. I
finally decided to call him on Nov. 5th. This was when I found out he
was now a silent key. On one other note... He did wanted to upgrade to
General class since the code was no more. He never got the chance to
do so. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Dah Dit
Dah!..............
