Hello !! Well, I sat back pondering if I should reply and add my 2 cents worth or not..... So, here goes - I see that this is not just a local situation / problem - it is being mentioned on one of the blurbs on the contest reflector. Yes, an operator does need to see that it is a problem to just sit on the calling freq and just call away with NO consideration for his fellow contesters. I think I am safe to state that we all 'over use' the calling freq but THAT IS WHERE SOME OF THE QSOs are to be had. I did alot of tuning as well as alot of antenna 'swinging' to avoid the metro interference as well as being an interference to those whom I share the calling freq with . ( By the way - Hats off to Bruce KB9C/R for his rove - sri I missed you in EN52 - needed the sleep : you had GREAT sigs from all other grids !). Now what I want to mention is that there REALLY IS awhole other 'layer' of QSOs to be had on the calling freqs if you listen more and call
CQ less. I can and have ALWAYS found alot of the rare grids/mults there........Sure you say - Ron has a bit different setup there , well I do and always will have because I feel like that is the way I want to contest - that is to work the rare DX that gets ignored or missed by most other stations....... Anyway , lets be thankful we have the activity to have a busy calling freq . Look at Wally's posting on this reflector . You know , I heard Wally as well as Bill calling and calling ALOT during the contest and once even swung around to say a quick hello and maybe get some folks to kinda look his up Wally's way..... Yes, I agree we can and should work out a 'gentlemens' agreement ,(Like calling CQ , listening up 10 or Calling CQ listening down 20 ) but remember there will always be QSOs to be had on the calling freqs if we just listen and look around more. The calling freq 'jams' are kinda a "necessary evil" ..... 73 , Ron KA0RYT
