Interesting.
Monday night I had the beacon on my IF rig's dial at 144.288, so I assumed
that I was 4 KHz low (144.292 - 144.288 = 0.004). As such, I expected
10368.100 to be 144.096 on my IF rig (144.100 - 0.004 = 144.096).
However, I worked both KM0T and VE4MA down about 8 KHz from that at 144.088
KHz on my IF rig. Both Mike and Barry run frequency standards in their
shacks, so at the time I was wondering if the N0KP beacon has moved a bit,
but according to W0GHZ report, it has not. And no, I was not listening
to the high side of the beacon (good question tho).
So, it remains a mystery. Its possible that the 100 degree heat was doing
something that did not get replicated now that its 77 degrees. Its
possible something strange is going on inside my older 2m IF rig (perhaps
its freq readout is not linear any more .... its a Kenwood TM-255), or,
perhaps I have been standing in front of the dish for too long. In any
case, isn't it funny that we discuss several KHz of frequency differences
given how far we have come on this band. Once again, thanks for the
beacon Dave !
See everyone on the "low bands" (ie 222, 432, etc) this weekend for
Rovermania (ya, that's a plug).
73, Jon
