Yup. My thought is that if we are getting docked for logging & contest
errors through the use of computer cross checking at the League, while it may
keep the contest "honest", it doesn't help us individually what-so-ever without
the individual LCR report to indicate what it is that we did wrong .... kind
of like beating the dog three hours after its done something bad.
As JK and GHZ point out, and as a separate issue outside of the need to
provide the LCR reports, there is also a wrinkle in the ARRLs cross checking
software in that it doesn't like to see W0ZQ and W0ZQ/R in the same contest
(although the rules allow for this). If you check out the 2005 January contest
line scores, you will see W0ZQ and W0ZQ/R. My W0ZQ/R set an all time
national record for the largest negative score of minus 45 points. By going out
and doing some afternoon playing on 2m FM and 10 gigs, I managed to suck away
45 points from our club score. My Plaque is in the mail.
Seriously, the League is aware of this unique problem with VHF cross log
checking and having one station submit both a home and a rover score. If 45
points would have made a difference in our clubs standings, we would be in
there fighting tooth & nail to reclaim them. But they don't, so in the meantime
its somewhat fun to be the holder of a rather unique record ... the lowest
rover score ever ..... its even lower than not going out .... its anti-activity.
In summary, yes, we should continue to push the League towards providing
LCRs for VHF contesting and we should continue to ask them to fix the rover/home
scoring anomaly before it creates a real problem.
