Here is a list of most of the major VHF operating events for 2006. Mark
your calendars now !

January 21 - 23 ARRL January VHF Contest
April 29 - 30 (???) SBMS Microwave contest
June 10 - 12 ARRL June VHF Contest
August 5 - 6 ARRL UHF Contest and Rovermania III
August 19 - 20 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest
September 9 - 11 ARRL September VHF Contest
September 16 - 17 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest

Besides the usual contests, I thought that the SBMS contest in late April
was a blast. Of course, the weather was a bit cool with wind and snow, so
perhaps this years weather will be better for us. In any case I plan to be
back for that one, most likely as W0ZQ/R.

We will also have a push on for the August UHF contest and Rovermania III.
I can tell you that for me that the primary goal this time around will not
be to win, but rather to continue to support growth through increased activity
in whatever form that may take.

And then there is the 10 GHz contest weekends .... two of them. If the
DEMI eight watt amps become more available, will that change our strategy ?
Doug, buy one. Are we out for points first, fun second, or fun first, points
second this time ? If its points, how does that manifest itself ? If its
fun, how does that manifest itself. Are these necessary exclusive of each
other ? For me, I'm leaning towards "fun" and to perhaps try something new
and/or some longer paths that may require CW. SSB is great, but CW is where
the heart is.

In any case, the good news is that we have lots of opportunity ahead of us.
With Christmas and the winter seasons closing in on us, NOW is the time to
consider general plans and strategies for improving your station by adding a
new band or two, thinking about rover and multi-op plans, and new operating
skills and strategies. Its a great hobby, so try stuff.

73, Jon
