A cut & paste from the VHF contesting reflector. It would appear that the
ARRL is moving to create a VHF/UHF Advisory Committee that would parallel
the long standing Contest Advisory Committee (CAC). This committee is
advisory only and shall work as directed by the ARRLs Programs & Services
Committee (just like the HF CAC). Its also interesting to see that the
committee is not to work on "..... predetermined issues" (I assume this
means rover scoring).
My read of this is that the League is interested in growth in
VHF/UHF/microwave contesting and is continuing to look for ways to do this
via rule changes to the existing contests (ie; the recent discussions such
as making the June contest 4 bands only, modifications to the 10g and UHF
contests, etc). We all know that changing multipliers from ARRL Sections
to grids some years back is an example of a good change, so we should
consider this an opportunity.

NEW ARRL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
At the recent ARRL board meeting the following motion was approved:
VUAC
VHF/UHF ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WHEREAS VHF/UHF contesting issues are markedly different than HF
contesting issues due to the unique aspects of VHF and UHF propagation
and the impact of geography and population-density differences.
WHEREAS, analysis of those issues is best left to Amateurs skilled and
familiar with those factors.
WHEREAS, the deliberations of the recent VHF/UHF subcommittee made
clear that significant issues involving contesting remain in the
VHF/UHF community. In order to most effectively address the manner of
resolving these matters, the Programs & Services Committee recommended
that a specific committee be established to address these issues.
WHEREAS, the mission of this committee would be to seek input from the
VHF/UHF public, identify important issues and seek the sense of the
"public" on these issues. This committee would not be asked to deal
with predetermined issues. THEREFORE and ARRL VUAC(VHF/UHF Advisory
Committee is established:
1. Committee membership should be comprised of one member from each
ARRL Division.
2. Committee members should be exceptionally qualified and recognized
members of the VHF/UHF community.
3. The term of the committee should be limited to 3 years.
4. The committee shall report to the Programs & Services Committee.
