Hi Jon, I think you're right to try and build on the momentum that's been
established for the August event. It's important to the NLRS membership to
have a good balance between the VHF/UHF and SHF activities and rovermania
has both. Yes, we ought to rotate the rovermania region of emphasis so as to
give more folks an opportunity to participate, over time.
I for one would welcome rovermania III in my back yard (NW MN and Eastern
ND) but, would desire that it be accessible to the average NLRS member so as
to ensure maximum participation (as either a rover, fixed or multiop). I'm
not sure if the increased travel distance might discourage some
participants? On the other hand, Eastern ND and NW MN have a lot of "rare"
grids that may attract other participants?
Your (and W9FZ's) suggestion of longer times in grids would be welcomed by
most everyone as it would make scheduling and tracking easier with fewer
grids to drive to resulting on a higher % time on the air (and lower fuel
costs).
Another consideration is having access to one or more 24 hour multi-op
stations from the region of emphasis as it can get quite lonely out there
during the early morning hours.
Keep the ideas flowing.

Rovermania III ..... its not too early to start to think about it. I
think W0ZQ/R will be doing something different next year as I have followed
the same route twice. Some wild ideas include heading up to NW MN, and
eastern ND to do a Rovermania up there .... how about three, four, five,
rovers cruising the Red River Valley ? Perhaps a reduced route, say six
or eight grids, that allow for more time in each grid. More power, more
bands, bigger antennas, the ability to rotate your antennas while on the
car, etc, etc, etc. Set your sites on August 5, 6, 2006, for Rovermania
III.
