The new Ka Band satellite offerings for Internet access should end most
serious consideration of BPL in rural areas. These services will be
announced early in 2005 and will feature high speeds at affordable monthly
prices (about $35 /m for 1.5 Mbit/s downolad) using relatively low cost
transceiving hardware. They will be geared to competing with cable and DSL
even in metropolitan areas, according to the industry scuttlebut up here in
Canada.
