Hi all,
A friend of mine has a couple of GE 4CX250 tube amplifiers that
he needs to be rid of. These are old GE MASTR Pro repeater/base
units that will produce about 250 watts output with 10 watts in.
Both will move easily into the amateur bands with minor retuning.
For linear SSB use you will need to add a decent screen voltage
regulator to insure linearity. They are typical of well made
commercial products and both amps are full cavity designs. For
those thinking about building a mid size amp these could save a
lot of metal bashing! The power supplies are very heavy and
designed for full power FM continuous use.
The VHF unit is a complete MASTR Pro repeater with all components
included. This includes the rack, metering and control circuitry,
receiver, exciter and amplifier. This could make a decent 2m
repeater although the older tube receiver and exciter are not the
ultimate in performance. Stripping out the unneeded components
will leave a capable 1/4Kw amp and about half the rack free for
other uses. Click the links below for photos:

The UHF unit is similar but contains only the amplifier, metering
and power supply. The power supply is basically the same as the
one in the VHF model. Photo of the UHF amp:

Both units are being sold complete. They are fairly large and
heavy so local pickup (South Minneapolis) is preferred. Price
is in the vicinity of a dollar a watt. Both units could share
one rack to make a nice dual band amp!
Any specific questions will be gladly answered through private
email.
