Chuck,

Good point.  Currently there are no good useful HT size HF offerings (but
there is one on the horizon).  Still there are other challenges.

- size of rig
- weight of rig
- size, setup, and cumbersomeness of antenna
- hf propagation patterns from 1-100 miles are inconsistent and highly
dependent on the antenna used and its setup.
- unwillingness for the 10ghz chasers to lug around more crap

VHF ACSB repeater concept offers all of the advantages of VHF FM in terms of
size, battery efficiency,  consistent antenna performance, small antenna
size (even in a beam) with additional distance offered under sideband.

And it is something unique that the NLRS has the talent to do and support.
