Hi Donn:
Pending comments from Mel, I, too, have noted those spots on the DeLorme map and wonder if they are accessible.
One thing that we learn from Mel's trip, yet again, what nasty weather Lake Superior can give us--even on July 1 in the middle of the summer.
There is a good chance that I will be in the UP on the Keewenaw looking at those very spots prior to the contest. I'm also going to investigate Mt Horace Greely.
Mel did an excellent job of researching McClain State Park and other spots. From Brockway to Great Sand Bay to McClain SP are three spots, but the distance from GSB to McSP would allow one more and give four operating locations--if the spots pan out.
I still have hopes/belief that Brockway WILL work on a normal summer day--even all the way to Duluth. The evidence, so far, is against me.
There are two things at work here that I find interesting--finding good and efficient locations as aggressive contesters and then the parallel study of propagation over water (Hi-Hi, Hi-Lo, and Lo-Lo).
I have the 14th-18th of July available and hope to cram my trip in then. August dates are much more iffy for me. I'm hoping that Len can spring for vacation and we can "study" propagation paths and locations. But even if he can't make it, I'll still probably go because I like the UP so much :-) .
