Ray,
I'm assembling a 10GHz station here in Rochester, NY with the help of
several locals. I went with the N-to-WR90 for the sake of durability.
Since this is mainly a portable setup which I'll be puting the the
suitcase from trips back to Nebraska, I wanted something I wasn't likely
to break from stressing it too much. Afterall, I will have to
disassemble the dish from the arm to make it fit in the bag. My plan
right now is to have the DEMI xvtr, amp, and all the
switching/sequencing stuff inside one box--UT141 internally, and 12V,
IF, and antenna connectors to the outside world. I'm going with
N-connectors just beacause I have a feeling that I would break a
connection on the SMA connectors at a critical time--like when I'm
freezing my buns off this December trying work you guys from some lonely
cornfield.
Like Don says, if you have some choice pieces of semi-rigid coax,
there's no sense in buying new stuff to change the connectors. Folks
around here seem to be successful using whatever they got their hands on
the cheapest, at least on 10 GHz..
