Type N connetors are far more durable than SMA. The classic SMA using
the UT-141 for both shield and center conductor is only rated for 5
connections. The copper plating on the copperweld center conductor wears
rapidly and the outside tube gets compressed by the taper of the female
connector shell and gives a far less reliable connection after the first
connection. The gold center pin over hard brass of the N connector wears
much better and the shield connection has spring fingers to flex and fit
over many connections and separations.
