I don't know for sure but the rumor is yes RCA did make capacitors and other components. On the RCA reflector, IIRC, it was mentioned that some capacitors had the old logo embossed on then. So either RCA made capacitors for high end receivers such as the AR-88 or the manufacturer supplied them with the logo as per procurement specification.

It seems that after WW2 RCA stopped this practice. I say this because when RCA was on the carpet with the USAF and the US Senate for issues with reliability of the ARC-21 transceiver, I do not remember any mention of RCA made capacitors in the documents I have. It seems to me that other specialized components in the ARC-21, such as mechanical filters, were made by RCA.

I just checked the manual for the CR-88 and noticed that there are four prefixes (M, MI, P & K) for part numbers. You can get a copy of several RCA manuals at: http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/rca/ Curious, RCA manuals I checked other then for the AR/CR-88 series do not use these part number prefixes.

Do these prefixes indicate from whom components were procured?

Jim

Does anyone know if RCA Victor made its own? I recently saw a photo of the
mechanical combination of electrolytically treated paper and foil using
rollers allegedly operating at Camden or Harrison in the early 1930s, but I
thought that RCA bought its passive components from other specialty
manufacturers.
